Bronte’s Story

Hey everyone,

My amazing friend Bronte has written a post for you all. From a gay person’s perspective, he will talk to you about his opinion on marriage equality, and what it is like being a gay teenager in society today.

I hope this helps some of you, and you all enjoy the post.

Hey Lily’s bloggers,

Today I’ll be talking about my story of coming out as a gay teenager. It was one of the toughest times in my life so far. When I realised I was gay I needed to tell someone, so I told one of my closest friends. Shortly after, the word quickly got out from there. There will always be haters that will put their input in, which I did not let bother me at all. I have been out of the closet for about 3 years now and it’s been the best 3 years of my life! You don’t have to worry about people judging you because they know you’re gay. But if you’re reading this and you’re in the closet still, just tell one of your closest friends or email thatgirlyblog and you can be passed on to me to talk. Last year was the best year because Marriage Equality was legalised, I was over the moon! I cannot believe it took Australia so long to legalise gay marriage. Love is love, and take it from me the feeling of knowing that it might not ever be legal for you to marry the person you love is the worst feeling I would have ever felt. I am so, so happy about where society is at and heading in terms of gay marriage and the LGBTI community. People now feel a lot more welcome no matter what their sexuality and it is really exciting.

Don’t ever forget that you ARE NOT alone. There is always someone to listen. And that is what thatgirlyblog is here for. To empower you all, and to support you and listen to whatever you have to say.

Thanks for reading,

Bronte x
