Towards the end of every year there is always talk of what everyone’s New Years Resolutions will be, yet each year we hear the same sorts of things. Most people will want to go on a diet, get fit, get a boyfriend, these are all great goals but are they really what you should be focusing on? For some people these kinds of goals might be really useful and important, and having a New Years Resolution where you take where you are on the first of Jan and set a goal or vision for where you want to be by New Years Eve at the end of the year is really good for working towards the long term, but I want to tell you about how important it is to set small short-term goals, in order to meet that long term goal in the end.
365 days is a long time, and so much can happen within that time, so it really important to set yourself smaller goals as well, because you never know what might pop up. Positive and negative bumps in the road can always come up, so being able to work through them and set small goals along the way is what will get you through the year and come out even stronger and more accomplished. If for example your goal is to get fit, that can be your goal but throughout the year, you should be setting small goals like “by the end of the month I want to be able to run 3km” or something like that, and if you set these small goals and really focus on them every few weeks or every month, when you get to the end of the year and see the bigger picture, you will look back on all of the small goals you set, and realise you have well and truly achieved your big main goal!
